GOWER'S LEE HAS DOUBLE
CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION
17 June 2005
Gower teenager Lee Lewis
has enjoyed two memorable weeks and can now look forward to
a summer of golfing contentment. The 18-year-old,
who reached the final of the Welsh Boys Championship at Carmarthen
last summer, won the second Glamorgan County Union Order of Merit
event - the Gower Gauntlet - taking advantage of local knowledge.
Scores of 77 and 72 for a 149 total gave Lewis a two-stroke
victory over Langland Bay's Mark Gorvett with Alec Kissick, another
Gower
member, a further stroke back in third place.
That performance fired Lewis into contention for the
Order of Merit title after Brent O'Neil had won the opening event
of the season -
the Neath Bell.
Then, 48 hours later, Lewis was named in the six-strong Welsh side
for the European Boys Team championship at Monticello, Italy next
month - just reward for a series of excellent displays over the past
year.
